Leddy

Leddy Cornejo Menéndez works at marketing and communications at Cultural Tacna, Perú. She graciously took Camilo and me on a tour of her city, which is located right on the border of Chile. We went to a museum located inside a train station as well as the main city plaza, and Leddy told stories of Tacna's history, especially its complicated relationship with its border neighbor, Chile. There are beautifully maintained gardens in the city square that they are very proud of. Tacna is a desert, and these small glimpses of colorful beauty are challenging to maintain. By the way, in these photos you'll see how a Seattlelite with a fair complexion dresses for the South American desert in the middle of their summer. Add 50+ sunblock and I'm ready to roll! :)

Gretha

Gretha Thol is the Academic Coordinator at Centro Cultural Peruano Norteamericano El Cultural - Tacna. She and Leddy and others helped to coordinate my concert in Tacna, a special event for their city, in a beautiful space in Club Unión. Gretha's heart is dedicated to helping people learn and achieve their dreams. This concert was very dear to her mission, and she and everyone involved did a spectacular job of organizing it!

Leonardo

I had a wonderful conversation with a student from the English Access Program after my concert in Tacna. He had some very uplifting words, and I know that he will work hard to achieve his dreams and aspirations.

"Leonardo Rodríguez del English Access Program Tacna PERU, nos relata su experiencia al conocer a Hilary Field:

"It was an amazing experience to meet Hilary Field, she is a wonderful musician. I love playing the guitar, piano and also sing so when I met her and talked to her I understood it is not impossible to reach my dream to be a great musician".

Public speaking in Spanish!

I announced my pieces and spoke about them to the audience, in a microphone, to a room of Spanish speaking people, in Spanish! Camilo helped me compose the notes so that the Spanish was correct, and I used those notes in concert. I didn't want to worry about forgetting words on stage, and I think speaking about the music helped me connect with the audience. I have been listening to the Pimsleur CDs for a while, so I think my pronunciation was pretty good. In some ways Spanish is easier to pronounce than English, and certainly more fun with all the rolled rrrrs and fun sounds.

Concert in Club Unión, Tacna, Perú!

Beautiful concert space in Tacna. Before I played, a group of young students played ensemble music together, including El Condor Pasa! They played beautifully and were very well organized- they all wore the same clothes and played perfectly together. Their teacher also played some of his wonderful compositions. After the concert was a beautiful reception, and everyone wanted photos!
